Just got the signal to close out the current TVIX short position at the open tomorrow. It is currently up 13.77% (I missed this trade waiting for TVIX to hit $12.75, which it didn't do - my bad).

Is this a different SS signal you are using, Kevin? Or is it the SF ETF short filter or something else?

It is a set of SS filters specifically designed to short trade TVIX - I have not posted the filters but will share the signals when it makes sense to do so. I usually post these signals and all of my 3x ETF SHORT filters in my other read-only thread.

Gonna close my Xiv long and Tvix short for a very nice 6% at 10.13.

Learning you should NEVER EVER be long Vix in contango, unless you come up with some super filter
that catches that once a year spike. Better to sit out the market and only short it when signals say short.

I have no play, the only thing I think I know is that Xiv will clear 50.10 before tanking. Getting frothy here so may sit out a couple weeks and smell the roses.

Look at the levels of contango for ^VIX (short-term) versus ^VXV (medium term). Go long or short accordingly.

kevin, that is very helpful. do you know where the best source of info is for calculating contango and backwardation for the vix?

Take a look at how long term price range is taken out above and below Bbs.
Look at how Xiv is stretching to take out 50.10
You can simply set long range trades for Spy Ung Gld. for example since there is no decay, and forget about it. Basically a full basket of. Just something to think about for college funds and retirement accounts.
Looks like Oil will eventually go to 12 bucks in this example.

Thanks shillihs. I see the point you are making on XIV but dont get how you arrive at 50.10 as resistance. maybe Im a little dense on this.
