I find that using stockfetcher filters most of my research and decisions on equities occur after the closing bell. In that light, real-time results are not necessary. I am currently on Scottrade at $7/trade. I have made more that 40 trades in the month of December and am looking for a trading platform that offers speed versus technicals. Please if you know of a plaftorm that you trust from experience that charges less. I have recently been reading about J2trade but get mixed readings on their competence.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

Believe me I know the pain of a $7 buy. I joined IB this afternoon. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

If you have over $50,000 you should consider Merrill Edge. I get 30 free trades per month; do the math, month after month, year after year. There are better platforms out there but if you’re an active trader, the savings adds up quickly.

It all depends on what you trade and size... IB for cheap direct access and look for $4.95 lot.. MB trading has worked for me on large orders. Also, you need to consider short lists(otc/pink/nas) if that's your game..Just some things to think about. I hope I helped.

novacane32000, you just need to keep over $50,000 in your account and you get the 30 free trades monthly. ML doesn't have the best trading platform but it's not bad. I've talked to other brokers who have much better platforms, but I can't justify moving away from the $2,400 a year savings.

Do these low cost platforms guarantee 1 sec or better execution, superior customer service? If not,you could be paying way more than you imagined in slippage through slow routing.Customer service is also really important..
