Apple gets closer with China, GM deals with finger pointing, Papa John’s and NFL cut ways

Apple gets closer with China, GM deals with finger pointing, Papa John’s and NFL cut ways

Here’s a look at some of the companies the Yahoo Finance team will be watching for you.

Apple (AAPL) is under fire for moving iCloud accounts from mainland China to state-run Chinese servers. Apple is also handing over the digital keys needed to unlock those accounts. Apple made the controversial decision in order to do business in China where the law requires companies to keep all data within the country.

South Korean officials are putting the blame on General Motors (GM). They say the shutdown of one of its four plants in the region was thanks to GM’s high interest rates on nearly $3B in loans. Now that GM wants to trade its debt for equity in exchange for financial support, officials are demanding an audit of the company’s management.

Papa John’s (PZZA) and the NFL say they’ve made a “mutual decision” to end their official league sponsorship. The move comes almost four months after former Papa John’s CEO, John Schnatter, blamed player protests for a drop in ratings and fewer pizza sales. While Papa John’s will reportedly continue to play a role on game days, NFL sources confirm Pizza Hut (YUM) will now take the mantle as the new official pizza of the league.

McDonald’s (MCD) is reviving its relationship with Disney (DIS) to put toys back into its Happy Meals. Toys will return in June starting with Disney’s ‘Incredibles 2’-themed trinkets. Mickey D’s previous agreement with Disney ended in 2006.

"The problem mailings and refund delays are happening as the bank continues to grapple with regulatory scrutiny following its sales-practices misconduct.

For those actions and others, the Fed earlier this month took the unprecedented action of restricting the bank’s growth until “it sufficiently improves its governance and controls.”

That punishment followed a rebuke issued to Wells Fargo last fall by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Citing repeated deficiencies, the regulator warned the bank that it would likely face enforcement proceedings because of them.

The OCC and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, another regulator, are aware of the refund delays with mortgage customers and have been pressing the bank about them, a person familiar with the matter said. The regulators have also been involved with auto-lending refunds, approving different phases of the mailings."

PowerShares Optimum Yield Diversified Commoodity Strategy No K-1 Portfolio ETF (PDBC).

https://www.stockinvestor.com/34918/advanced-commodities-fund-ambitious-investor/?utm_source=03%2F23%2F2018&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=_ELETTERS%20Eagle%20Weekly%20Investor&utm_content=FMSIC004&osl=FMSIC004&PUID=259127

The PowerShares Optimum Yield Diversified Commodity Strategy No K-1 Portfolio ETF (PDBC) is, in the management’s own words, an “actively managed exchange-traded fund (ETF) that invests in commodity-linked futures and other financial instruments that provide exposure to some of the world’s most heavily traded commodities.”

PDBC is the sister fund of PowerShares DB Commodity Index Tracking Fund (DBC). Both funds are managed by Invesco PowerShares, a longtime professional investment management firm with a total of 155 ETFs under its watch.

With $1.11 billion assets under management, PDBC is dwarfed in size by DBC and its $2.68 billion in assets. But PDBC charges a much smaller fee (expense ratio of 0.59% vs. 0.85%), while also paying out a distribution yield of 3.86%. PDBC trades in strong volume with small spreads and offers excellent underlying liquidity.

The fund is structured in a way for investors to avoid filing the K-1 tax form, which often can be much higher than the 15% or 20% long-term capital gains rate for dividends. The specifics will vary from investor to investor, so it’s important to do your own research before you attempt to take advantage of PDBC’s tax structure.

PDBC tracks the DBIQ Optimum Yield Diversified Commodity Index (DBIQ), which is 55% invested in energy, 23% in agriculture, 13% in industrial metals and 10% in precious metals. All in all, PDBC provides investors with diversified commodities exposure and a portfolio hedge against inflation.

PDBC uses a sophisticated formula to maximize the yield of its portfolio and provide long-term capital appreciation. Year to date, the fund is down 0.46%, but over the last year it has returned 5.28%, as you can see in the chart below.

Exclusive The Alpha Algorithm Chooses a Semiconductor Stock

PDBC’s top commodity holdings are WTI Crude, 4.41%; Brent Crude, 4.16%; NY Harbor ULSD, 3.93%; Gasoline, 3.87%; and Gold, 2.64%.

For advanced investors who are seeking a play on the commodities market, I encourage you to look into the PowerShares Optimum Yield Diversified Commoodity Strategy No K-1 Portfolio ETF (PDBC).
