I don't know if I am reading the 5yr chart correctly, but is Dow Jones Industrial Average chart showing a clear "Head & Shoulder"? What do you guys think?

no....head should be higher than shoulders.

Do either of you know whether head and shoulders means a breakout will definitely happen to set a new support or resistance?

Perhaps these articles (opinions) will help...

That is extremely helpful. Thank you, Four. What filter do you use to find head and shoulder/overbought stocks?

pthomas215

Glad the links are helpful.
I am aware of patterns like head and shoulders. I haven't really looked into head and shoulder opportunities.

My "lab" is located at: StockFetcher Forums · Stock Picks and Trading · Generic

Please visit... maybe there will be something you can use or modify for your style.

Note: I post entries (usually) and not systems (never posted a system). Exits are still a stumbling block, for me.
Remember, ideally, a system that includes position sizing, entry, exit... is needed.

Four, you and Kevin are very bright. ha. What does the output of that coding give you? My apologies, I am relatively new to equity investing.

pthomas,

Kevin provides 10 distinct steps and details within the steps.

When you read through and analyze his presentation where do things get "muddy"?

Example
1. Define the market:
SP500 is selected for its liquidity and bid/ask spread characteristics.

I would look for key words (liquidity, bid, ask) and analyze the definitions.
Then go back and determine if the individual parts also make sense when recombined (synthesized). Another idea is to take a statement and turn it into a question.

Kevin says "select SP500 for liquidity" and I would change that into a question that needs an answer.
What would be the purpose to trade liquid stocks versus illiquid stocks?

Then identify what is still "muddy". Then it is easier to ask a specific question about the word or item.

Taking things apart and putting them back together with focused/deliberate practice and repetition is how we learn.

Perhaps take the user guide apart and put it back together :

pthomas, found a visual for you.

The chart link (below). See the chart on the left is a head and shoulders pattern (Bearish):
