I honestly don't remember anything I said from that long ago, but your idea makes a lot of sense.

On stop buy at +X% from the open and then put in a trailing stop - nice, dude. Need to work on this one tonight.

Well, with a system like that ... you definitely want the ETF to run ... therefore you should stick to commodity type triple leveraged ETFs (gold, silver, natural gas, miners) ... they are not (as) mean reverting as are other ETFs - and, in particular, Country ETFs and Broad Based Index ETFs.

I'm pretty sure you did something like this years ago and I'm now concerned that we have come full circle with your knowledge. It's all been drained out and etched into Stockfetcher forums over the past 4-5 years. Its your legacy.

I hope we are not starting to repeat or that this is some sort of early sign of alzheimer's ...

Or that this is some sort of early sign of Alzheimer's!

I respectfully suggest you speed up your back testing and give us the results...just in case.

I took a preliminary stab at backtesting DUST and NUGT to early 2012 in Google spreadsheets and is able to be edited by anyone as they see fit at the link below. Stop loss can be changed by updating the stop loss cell at the top of the spreadsheet. Right now, spreadsheet is daily, but can be converted to weekly pretty easily. Brokerage fees and a profit stop have not been included yet, but it is a work in progress...

I can't backtest this pair at the moment - Stratasearch does not currently have DUST in its stock list. I'll send them a note and have them add it.

For those who aren't day-traders, wouldn't it be almost a requirement to rotate through leveraged pairs to avoid 30-day wash sale rules? There will be plenty of down trades. How many pairs are we talking about?

That are based on an underlying asset that moves 1+% daily and has sufficient liquidity to get in and out cheaply? Probably just NUGT and DUST, TNA and TZA, and AGQ and ZSL (these are 2x but silver moves a lot).
