I believe DPO is a lagging indicator and it uses an average price of the nearest ## days (where ## may be any number you specify, in this case 20). Therefore it cannot compute a DPO crossing today because it is dependent on future days price levels. I may be way off base with this but that is the impression I get when I look at this unusual indicator.

Looking at Stockcharts.com, DPO(20) will only be able to be calculated through 10 September as of today.

Chetron,
Curious, where did you come up with 34 days ago? How can the script be written to be current?

34 IS JUST A RANDOM NUMBER I PICKED TO GUARANTEE A RESULT, > 20.
BUT AS SF MENTIONS IN THE DPO INDICATOR FORUM......
Note: Due to the construction of this particular oscillator, the last period (Period /2) days will not have a value.
SO THAT BEING SAID, I BELIEVE 20 / 2 = 10 + 1 = 11
LASTLY....
SO FOR ODD NUMBERS ....
5 / 2 = 2.5 + .5 = 3

Thanks, Chetron, for clarifying the situation. Just don't understand how an indicator (e.g., DPO) looks forward. ???

BASED ON THIS SITE
I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS A FORWARD INDICATOR, AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY WERE SAYING, BUT THIS IS WHAT I GOT FROM THE PRETTY PIX.....
THE DPO LENGTH * 3 = THE EMA USED......
CY, BEING MY EXAMPLE, IS A BUY BECAUSE IS TURNED AROUND THE -.25 LINE. 2 DAYS LATER, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO BREAKOUT, GREATER THAN +.50 LINE BEFORE CROSSING BELOW +.25 LINE, SELL IT.
YOU PLAY THE RANGE BOUND TRADING TILL IT BREAKS OUT AND THEN ONLY SELL IT IF IT CLOSES BELOW THE MA(21)
IT IS HARD TO FILTER BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW THE OVERSOLD/OVERBOUGHT LINES UNTIL YOU SEE THE CHART.

EVEN THOUGH I HAVE NEVER, EVER USED THE DPO INDICATOR BEFORE TODAY.....
I USED IT WITH A "FLAG" FILTER BECAUSE, OFF THE CUFF, I SEE THIS INDICATOR AS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD KEEP YOU ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TRADE IN A RANGE BOUND EQUITY UNTIL YOU GET TO THE BREAK OUT.
WHY I USE THE AFOREMENTIONED "FLAG" FILTER, AS OPPOSED TO A TRIANGLE, PENANT OR RETANGLE FILTER, IS THAT THIS FLAG FILTER HAPPENS AFTER A BREAKOUT, WHERE AS YOU ARE NORMALLY STILL WAITING FOR THE OTHERS TO HAPPEN. I BELIEVE THIS IS WHERE THIS INDICATOR BEST SERVES IT USER.

Still don't know why SF can't compute a DPO(20) crossover. It's historical info. I see that same problem in Stockcharts.com, but that's not the case with VectorVest.
