Can anyone create a filter which finds stocks making a new 6 month high, but never a previous one in that 6 month period, and breaks an upper BB w/50% higher volume than the previous day,and volume must be +200,000.I'm looking for stocks making a move off a low level base.CHIP would be a good example.Any help would be highly appreciated.Thanks,Mike.............

Mike:
I'm not a good filter writer, but I do remember many YEARS ago, Muddy wrote a filter re: stocks with NARROW Bollinger Band widths for a certain period of time (3-6 months). The stocks never moved above or below the BBs, then suddenly they'd break out on higher volume.
I'll see if I can find it in the archives.

Funny thing ...
I just looked in the archives, and I asked the same question FOUR years ago!
LOL!
I don't think I had any success with the BBs. The filter you want is simply one where the stock has remained within a narrow trading range for an extended amount of time.
Anyway ... how about a filter with historical volatility at 0 ....?
That might work.

I think it might look something like this but since it doesn't return any hits, I can't tell if it's right. Debug thinks it's OK but that doesn't mean it's what you're looking for.

I don't understand writing scans but how can your count criteria and the first line co-exist?

heypa.....you are right they could not co-exist ..the first line would mean the count woulld have to be at least one ... but the second line says the count is less then one ....
... I think programming is meant for you ...good catch.

even reducing the filter to show new highs 1 day ago,... each of the resulting stock show "new highs" on the way up (looking at the charts).....

ok ... I looked at your CHIP chart ... this simple filter produces simila charts... you can add other criteria ...so its a start.... I could of used price ... but I like volume as a force that speaks louder then price.... :
